VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

Apache OpenOffice - Microsoft Office alternative
OpenOffice is one of the more renowned pieces of open source software on the market and has been so more than 15 years. The bundle contains tools for creating word documents, graphics, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and a slew of other commonplace file types.
